Franziska was born into the prestigious von Karma family, who are wealthy German aristocrats. Unlike her older sister, who married and had a child, Franziska had no interest in learning normal women's duties, and instead expressed strong interest in becoming a prosecuting attorney like her father. She was allowed a full private education alongside her father's ward, Miles Edgeworth, and became a prosecutor at the age of thirteen. This caused much outcry, mainly about the fact that she was a woman, but those cries were quickly silenced by hefty bribes from Manfred von Karma. Since then, Franziska has become respected in courts throughout Germany, doing absolutely whatever is necessary to keep up her prized perfect record.

Quite recently, Franziska received an invitation to the Albergo Chiaro, and discarded it at once, scoffing at the mere suggestion that there were fools out there that thought she needed any further education. She immediately forgot about it, continuing on with her prosecuting duties. Nearly a week later, she woke up in an unfamiliar room - a room at the Albergo Chiaro. And needless to say, she's not very happy about it.
